3 Ways to Wear: Leather Skirt
November 4, 2015
When I first started my capsule wardrobe my plan was to take daily outfit pictures and post a weekly round up of my outfits. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I haven’t managed to take many daily pictures. So I thought I would show you three ways I would style items in my capsule wardrobe. To show you how versatile a capsule wardrobe can be and also to give me a few ideas on how to wear some of my pieces. I’m a pretty boring dresser really, especially this time of year when its so easy just to throw on jeans and a jumper, but with limited options I know I need to be more creative with how I style my clothes (or else I’ll end up wearing the same 2 outfits for the next 2 months). For my first 3 ways to wear post, I’ve picked my faux leather skirt from Oasis (mine is old,
similar). I tend to wear this the same way with ankle boots and a smartish blouse on days I fancy being a little more dressed up.
Outfit 1 - Cosy/Casual
I’ve always thought of my leather skirt as a more dressy piece and have avoided it when picking more casual looks. I ended up really liking this casual look with the leather skirt. The cosy oversized knit really dresses down the look, I teamed it with flat ankle boots to keep the look relaxed, but it would look just as good with a low heel or high leg boots. The jumper is Topshop (the exact one is sold out online but you might find one instore, similar) and the boots were from Oasis a couple of years ago (similar)
Outfit 2 - Dressed Up Flannel
Like the oversized jumper a flannel shirt is a really casual piece. I feel the leather skirt has managed to dress up the shirt, making it more work appropriate (well for my office at least). I’ve added a pair of heeled ankle boots to keep the outfit smart/casual rather than too casual. The flannel shirt is from Jack Wills (my shirt is a few years old but Jack Wills have a few similar in stock), and the ankle boots are from Topshop (brought last year, similar)
Outfit 3 - Heading Out
The final outfit is much more similar to how I normally wear my leather look skirt. I’ve teamed a smart blouse with the skirt and added a pair of high heeled ankle boots. I’m not sure I’d wear this look to work (maybe with lower heels or boots) but I would definitely wear this out for a meal or drinks. The blouse is from Topshop last year (similar) and the ankle boots are by Nine West (I’ve had these a few years now, similar)
I’ve found a few options (below) if you’re interested in adding a leather skirt to your wardrobe. I do think they are worth the investment as they can be a very versatile piece. I think I will be looking for a real leather one to add to my winter capsule in December.
I've always wanted to start a capsule wardrobe, but I always have these pieces that don't match with much else in my closet, but still make me happy when I wear them. It also doesn't help that my style is all over the place haha!
I love how you styled it with a flannel, it makes it so wearable, and less intimidating!

Thanks. I love the flannel with the leather skirt, such an easy outfit to wear as as you said makes the leather less daunting.
Hi Jen, love the skirt & check shirt combi..was eyeing up a leather look skirt & you've encouraged me to get one! Fab post.

Pairing it with the check shirt definitely makes the leather skirt seem less daunting Heidi. Go for it
Any more idea about outfit 2 i feel uncomfortable in heeled ankle boots as i have to move a lot and at the end of day my feet hurt would anyone suggest matching shoes with same skirt but third outfit shirt. Thanks
