Today I’m going to be looking at essential items to help you build a versatile wardrobe which works for you. You need to bear in mind that these are pieces which I consider essential in MY wardrobe and work well with my lifestyle. However, I do think that these basic items would work well for most lifestyles and make a great base for your wardrobe.

Plain White T-shirt
This is such a versatile piece. Goes perfectly with a pair of jeans add accessories to change the look. Team with trainers for a more casual look, but add a statement necklace and heels and you’re set for going out. I get my t-shirts from Topshop as I like the way they fit. However, you can pick up a t-shirt pretty much anywhere

Everyone needs a well fitting pair of jeans in their wardrobe. I wear black jeans most of the time as they look a little smarter than blue and I can wear them to work. Again they’re super easy to dress up or down by changing accessories and adding different tops. I like the Topshop Leigh jeans, but you really need to shop around to find the perfect pair for you.
Lightweight Knit
A lightweight jumper is a perfect addition to your wardrobe. Buy in a neutral colour and you can wear it all year round (let’s face it we still need a jumper in the British summer). Wear over a dress or with jeans, again you can dress it up by changing accessories. Add heels and a statement necklace to dress it up or wear with trainers at the weekend. I got mine from ZARA but you can pick up a lightweight knit almost anywhere
Crisp White Shirt
I love a white shirt. They’re perfect if you work in a more corporate environment or if you have an important meeting or interview – just team with your black trousers. Dress it down by teaming with your jeans or wearing under a jumper. You can make it a little bit sexier by leaving the top few buttons undone to reveal a little cleavage. I got mine from Mango but these are so easy to pick up (even supermarkets will have them)
Black Trousers
A basic pair of black trousers is essential for all you working girls. They are so easy to wear for work, just add a crisp white shirt or another basic top. Make sure they fit you well and work with flats and heels. I got mine from Topshop but as they are such a basic you can pick them up anywhere.
Black Vest Top
This is such a versatile item which is so easy to dress up or dress down. They are perfect for hot summer days thrown on with a skirt or shorts wear with sandals during the day and add heels for going out at night. Team with jeans and a blazer for a smart casual look on cooler days. River Island has some really nice ones (mine is from River Island) but ASOS and Topshop also sell good vests.
Breton Stripe Top
Everyone needs a Breton stripe top in their wardrobe. These have some kind of magical ability to look chic no matter how you style them. They work just as well with jeans as your smart trousers. I suggest keeping things simple and not adding too much in the way of accessories and keeping the rest of your outfit simple. I got mine from Oasis – they always have a good selection of stripe tops. Also, try ASOS and Topshop for Breton stripes.
Little Black Dress
A plain black dress will add so much to your wardrobe. Wear for a night out with heels, a clutch and glamorous jewellery. Wear to work with a white shirt underneath. Or wear on its own it the summer. Shop around to find the perfect dress which works for you. I got mine from Warehouse, it’s a jersey material which is so easy to wear (and wash) and can be worn casually.
 Leather Jacket
Everyone needs a leather jacket in their life. They look so good thrown over a cute dress or with jeans and a t-shirt. There are so many styles out there so shop around to find one you love. Mine is from Warehouse.
I love a blazer. They can dress up any outfit and you always look put together with a blazer on. They look great with jeans and a t-shirt at the weekends, wear over a cute dress for work. Or team with your black trousers and crisp white shirt for that important meeting or interview. My blazer is from River Island, but ZARA always has great blazers.
