Wardrobe Essential: The Jumper Dress
December 28, 2015
I recently pulled this red jumper dress out of storage for my winter capsule wardrobe. I had forgotten just how versatile jumper dresses are (yes I did just say that a bright red dress is versatile). I may even go as far to say that a jumper dress is a wardrobe essential. If you’re currently planning your winter wardrobe, I highly recommend picking up a jumper dress. They are just so easy to wear, just throw one on with tights and boots. You look so put together when you really just threw on one thing, perfect for those cold, dark mornings when you want to spend an extra few minutes in bed. Because it’s essential a long jumper, jumper dresses are casual enough to wear at the weekend, but since it’s a dress it is still office appropriate. Perfect for a capsule wardrobe, where everything needs to multi-task.
Depending on how cold it is outside you could layer a shirt or long sleeve top underneath for extra warmth and team with fleece lined tights (seriously those are so much warmer than jeans). You could also add a fur vest over the dress (like I did for my M&Co style challenge
). When the weather gets a little warmer just skip the tights and push the sleeves up (team with a stack of bracelets).
I’ve just added a scarf to the dress to break up the block of red and teamed the dress with boots and matching red nails.
Another thing I love about jumper dresses is they can be dressed up or down. They look casual when worn with boots but when you add a statement necklace the whole look changes. I’ve switched my oversized scarf for a statement necklace and added heels and a clutch for a more dressed up look. The great thing about this outfit is I look dressed up, but I’m still warm (which is important when you live in Scotland)
Now is the perfect time to add a jumper dress to your wardrobe as there as so many bargains around in the sales. I’ve found a few options for you below. If you’re not sure about red, try a neutral colour or stick with black.
