As you guys know I’m getting more and more interested in cruelty-free and natural skincare. So when Lucky Cloud Skincare got in touch to see if I wanted to try out some of their products I was keen to see if a cruelty-free, vegan skincare product could compete against my existing products. Lucky Cloud Skincare is a local brand making their products right here in Edinburgh. One of their biggest selling points is that all their products are handmade in small batches, using specially chosen, quality raw materials which are all plant based to create moisture-rich, nourishing and soothing products for your skin. Nothing is tested on animals and all ingredients are vegan-friendly and ethically sourced. Lucky Cloud products contain no parabens, no formaldehyde, no sodium lauryl sulphates, and no mineral oil. Lucky Cloud aims to create products that are truly natural which don’t irritate or harm your body or the environment.
All sounds great so far, however, I won’t buy a product just because it’s natural and cruelty-free, it has to do what it says it does and do it well. Lucky Cloud sent me 3 different products to try, which arrived in recyclable packaging (you won’t believe how many products are sent wrapped in plastic and non-recyclables). I received the Hydrating Body Milk in sweet orange and vanilla scent, the Soothing Body Butter in lavender and rose geranium scent and the Lip Butter in coconut flavour.
Hydrating Body Milk in Sweet Orange and Vanilla*
This was my favourite of the 3 products. It’s a really lightweight moisturiser which sinks in really quickly and doesn’t leave and tackiness on the skin. The scent is exactly what you’d expect sweet orange and vanilla to smell like and feels very festive to me. This isn’t the most hydrating moisturiser so I wouldn’t recommend it for very dry skin. It’s a good option to have at your desk to top up when needed but I’m not sure I’ll be replacing my favourite body lotion with this (Clarins Moisture-Rick Body Lotion if you’re interested) but it is a good option if you’re looking for something lightweight. If you’re looking for something lightweight which sinks in fast and smells great then this is a great option at an amazing price (£10 for 100ml)
Soothing Body Butter in Lavender and Rose Geranium*
Before I start, I have to say that I’m not really into body butter. I find them way too thick and difficult to work into the skin and I hate the feeling of waiting for products to sink in before dressing. I always opt for a body lotion over a body butter so don’t really have much experience of these products to compare. This body butter feels really thick but is surprisingly easy to work into the skin. It sinks in easier than other body butter I’ve tried but you do still have to leave it a while before dressing. It does leave a slight sheen on the skin which I’m not too keen on but if you use this product before bed it’s gone by morning. This is much more moisturising than the body milk which is to be expected but once again I’m not sure it’s enough for really dry skin. However, this should work well for normal/oily skin types. The scent isn’t to my taste but is very relaxing and would be lovely after a hot bath before bed. Like the body milk, this is great value for money at only £15 for 150mls.
Coconut Lip Butter*
A good lip balm is an essential in winter and this is a really good option. The first thing that hits you when you open this is the coconut scent. Whenever I smell coconut I just think about sitting on the beach in the Carribean (take me back please) so the scent gets a big thumbs up from me. But a lip balm needs to be more than a nice smell. Like the other products this lip butter is really lightweight and easy to apply. It sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave that tacky feeling on your lips that some lip balms have. I love the little tin and think this is so handy to have in your bag for top ups throughout the day. At only £4 these are fantastic value for money (they would make great stocking fillers)
