I have a confession to make, unlike every other blogger out there I’m not a massive fan of valentine’s day. I just don’t get the appeal of it. Maybe it’s because I’m an old married woman who’s forgotten what romance is or because I’ve never been into lovey-dovey romance. Whatever the reason valentines just isn’t my favourite holiday. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t like the excuse for a post-Christmas celebration. After all, this time of year can be a bit depressing so any excuse to do something special and showing a loved one you care is welcome.
It can be tough to plan a romantic day when you’re on a budget. Especially as there is so much pressure to have the perfect day. What with the consistent social media updates of surprise holidays and cheesy engagements! I won’t say too much about engagements as I got engaged around this time of year (although not on valentine’s day). Being on a budget forces us to be a little creative when planning valentines and helps us avoid the cheesy clichés.
Whether you love it or hate it, valentine’s day often means buying gifts. I’ve been on Debenhams at their range of valentine’s gifts for a few budget ideas. They have a great range of gifts and loads for under £30 which should work for most people’s budgets.
Starting with the guys there is this simple black leather wallet from Jeff Banks. Hip flasks are another great gift option, perfect for taking to events or bringing a sneaky nip on a country walk. Talking of country walks a scarf is another great idea. It’s only February so we still have a couple of months of cold weather to go and most people are starting to get fed up with their winter wardrobes so a scarf can give it a refresh. Onto grooming, I can’t believe the price of these Babyliss clippers, and they are a useful gift too. I’ve added this men’s skincare kit from Korres. If the man in your life is anything like mine he’ll need a helping hand when it comes to skincare.
Now onto the girls. I have start with this beautiful watch from Floozie by Frost French, I just love the colour of the strap. And talking of colour, I’m really drawn to the colour of this frill detail jumper from Red Herring. This would be perfect to wear on a casual valentine’s date. This Too Faced palette would also be perfect for that valentine’s date. The colours are so beautiful, perfect for a subtle smoking eye look. On the topic of makeup, a designer lipstick is always a great gift. At £26.50 this Dior lipstick probably isn’t something you would buy for yourself but will be a welcome gift. And finally, you really can’t go wrong with a good bottle of gin.
