When I was planning my winter capsule wardrobe, I knew I wanted an alternative to jeans. I decided to add a few skirts to my wardrobe as they can be styled up or down and are easy to wear (just like my jeans). I saw this skirt in Reiss and knew I wanted a burgundy leather skirt, but at £195 it wasn’t a realistic option. I couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money on a skirt, especially since I didn’t know how much wear I would get out of it. However I couldn’t get the burgundy skirt out of my mind, and having found some styling ideas on Pinterest (you can follow me here), I knew I would be adding a burgundy leather skirt to my winter capsule wardrobe.
I found this one in ZARA at about an eighth of the price of the Reiss one. Obviously, it’s not real leather, but I don’t think that matters much in a skirt. I think it is pretty good quality for the price (I always find ZARA a bit of a hit or a miss in terms of quality). As usual with ZARA the sizing is insane, I originally ordered a Small (I’m normally a UK 10) and could even get it over my hips so had to size up. Now I don’t mind sizing up if it means a better fit, but if I’m wearing the Medium that means that a ZARA large is a UK 12 which is crazy. However the upside of having to make an exchange is that the skirt went on sale, so I ended up getting it a little cheaper.
I have had so much wear out of this skirt since I bought it. It’s a really easy style of skirt to wear and looks good with pretty much everything. I’ve styled it here with a shirt from Whistles, to dress it up a little, but it looks just as good worn with a chunky knit and boots. This shirt from Whistles has a lovely fit, and the spot print adds some interest to the outfit.
