Home Snippets – Downstairs Loo

June 24, 2015

Since I moved into my new home last year I have been slowly decorating each room in turn. Unlike most people I started by focusing on the smaller rooms and have left the large public rooms (living room, kitchen etc) to last as those are likely to be more costly and we need to build our savings again. I’m taking my time with each room, to make sure I get it exactly how I want it the first time around.

Recently I revamped the downstairs loo transforming it from a pretty basic toilet to a room you want to spend time in. As usual, I forgot to take before pictures – I get too excited about changing things I forget to record the process. You’ll just have to trust me that it was pretty boring, just a toilet, sink with magnolia walls and cheap lino flooring. As with all my home projects I started by searching Pinterest (follow me) for ideas and decided I wanted to go with a bold wallpaper. Yes, I know wallpaper in such a small room is a brave choice and it could have gone horribly wrong. But after seeing images of toilets with a bold wallpaper I was convinced it would work.

After convincing the Hubby that wallpaper was the way to go off we went to B&Q to find a bold paper for our room. B&Q had a pretty impressive selection (honestly, some of the wallpapers you can get are amazing), in the end, we decided on this tree print paper. Putting it up wasn’t as hard as we thought it would be. Neither of us had papered a room before, always avoiding it as it seems like such a big job. The paper we picked was one of the paste the wall rolls, which was so easy to put up quickly and meant we didn’t need to set up a pasting table (brilliant as there is definitely not space for one in the downstairs loo). As it is such a small room it didn’t take long to get the paper up.

We also changed the floor using some left over laminate we had from the main bathroom. I already had all of the accessories from the old house and think the black works really well in the room now. I’m really happy with the way it turned out, it’s hard to believe it only took a day to completely transform the room. I love the way the room looks, and I’m so glad I took the risk and went with the bold wallpaper.
