A couple of weeks ago I was chatting to someone at an event about my capsule wardrobe, and she asked how I was going to cope with the Christmas party season. This caused me to panic a little, because when I planned my wardrobe I hadn’t considered Christmas and needing to dress up. Luckily I don’t have many fancy nights out planned, but I do have a couple of Christmas lunches and drinks which I want to get a little dressed up for (it is Christmas after all). None of these is fancy enough for me to wear one of my cocktail dresses (which I’m not counting as part of my capsule wardrobe). After a little thought and a good dig through my wardrobe, I realised I do have plenty of options within my capsule wardrobe. I did have the hindsight to include a pair of heeled booties in my wardrobe, which makes it super easy to dress up any outfit. I also included a couple of blouses which look good with jeans, leather trousers or a skirt (add the heels for an instant night out look).
I also remembered to include a smarter dress, which when styled with the heels and a clutch makes the perfect Christmas party outfit. I think this just shows that it’s important to have a few smarter options in your capsule wardrobe, just in case you have a few surprise events to attend.
For my Christmas Party Outfit, I chose my little black dress from Whistles. The loose cut of the dress makes it ideal for wearing to Christmas lunch as it will cover any food babies. It’s also really comfortable meaning you can wear it all day. As with all little black dresses, you can switch out your accessories to completely change the look. I’ve teamed it with black shoes and a burgundy clutch bag, but I think it would look great with bold red heels (love these). Or swapping the burgundy clutch for a more glitzy embellished one (love this one). I decided to keep my makeup simple with a bold red lip to make things more festive.
