The return of the sunshine has made me want to spend more time outdoors. Although the beautifully unpredictable Scottish weather can make dressing for spring a little tricky. It’s hard to know what to wear when it’s snowing one minute and glorious sunshine the next. I can dress for a dog walk in the freezing cold easily but it’s these in-between days which can get a little tricky. How do you dress for snow, rain and sunshine all in one day?
Luckily Fat Face’s new range is all about embracing the beautifully unpredictable weather we have here. So when they got in touch to ask me to put together a mini spring weekend capsule wardrobe I jumped at the chance. In this house, spring weekends involve getting out and about exploring the countryside and of course pub lunches. My weekend capsule wardrobe is all about being comfortable and practical for days spent outdoors. Comfy shoes and a waterproof jacket are must haves to handle Scotland’s beautifully unpredictable weather.
Saturday’s are all about getting outdoors on long dog walks and exploring the countryside. My outfit needed to be super practical for walking along muddy paths and keeping up with the dog. Fat Face has a great range of casual clothes perfect for us dog walkers. Not only are they practical but they also look great. You don’t need a separate ‘dog walking’ wardrobe as everything looks good. And best of all everything can be easily thrown in the washing machine when you get covered in muddy paw prints.
For my first weekend capsule wardrobe outfit, I went for classic Breton stripes. Spring and Breton stripes go hand in hand and this super soft long sleeve top from Fat Face is perfect for this time of year. This is one of the softest tops I own and it’s so easy to wear. Breton stripes always look great and are a wardrobe essential. Here I’ve teamed them with Fat Face’s super skinny jeans. These jeans are just the right amount of skinny, not too tight and not too loose. I have a nightmare time finding jeans that fit and these fit so well. Being a shorty I needed to roll up the hems but I actually really like how these jeans look rolled up.
To make sure I stayed dry in case of any unexpected rain shower I added the Rosie jacket in Khaki. This is the perfect jacket for spring. It’s not too heavy but still adds enough warmth for a chilly spring day. It has a similar feel to a wax jacket and will keep you dry throughout those April showers. For footwear, I needed something practical and comfortable and these light grey slip ons didn’t disappoint. The lighter colour makes them ideal for spring and they have a padded sole which makes them so comfortable. I could wear theses all day without any pain.
Sunday’s equal pub lunches and roast dinners so I needed something a little smarter but still casual. With rather a lot of wishful thinking, I picked out this cute gingham sundress. I was imagining summer picnics and skipping barefoot on the grass when I picked it out. However, the great thing about Fat Face’s new collection is that everything can be layered to work just now and as the weather warms up in the summer. Throwing a cardigan on top makes the dress work right now, it would even look good with tights and boots on colder days. Here I’ve worn the grey slip ons again as they are so comfortable. But how cute will this dress look in the summer with sandals?
Whilst the dress is the standout piece of this outfit I just have to talk about the Libby cardigan as well. Up until Christmas time I didn’t own a cardigan, preferring jumpers and sweaters to keep warm. But boy was I wrong cardigans are so useful, especially at this time of year when you’re adding and removing layers all day. They are just so easy to throw on over your outfit and take off again when it gets warmer perfect for our beautifully unpredictable weather. This one is so soft and lightweight I feel every wardrobe needs one. I love that it’s blue so adds colour whilst also being neutral.
I think thanks to Fat Face I finally have dressing for the beautifully unpredictable weather down. Which is lucky as the dog still demands a walk no matter the weather. I know my spring weekends will be spent outdoors exploring the countryside and embracing the crazy Scottish weather.
